At a Loss

"This dragon doesn't give a shit because he's a dragon" Art by Nathan Burgess, 2009

Back when teaching the cartooning class at UAF, it was always in the back of my mind how there was this young dude who - despite recovering from cancer, relapsing, then undergoing more treatments and multiple surgeries - somehow managed to crank out insane amounts of artwork, and still kept learning, kept practicing and kept growing. Besides being a role model (and one reason for flunking a few slackers: lesson being that there are others who only wish that they had the talent, time and resources which so many of us take for granted... and far too many waste), he was a personal and professional inspiration, and one of the better, promising talents to come out of Fairbanks I’d ever seen.
So a couple evenings ago it was strange noticing how page counts spiked on a couple older posts about him… took a while to find out why. My condolences to friends & family.

Peace Nathan, and thank you for the laughs.
