Time to spark up another episode of "Baked Alaska" as we roll up the final feature panels now that the Alaska Cannabist magazine has folded. Join us below the fold for more...
I gotta say that this was one of the top ones in the whole series, definitely of the year, and a way to go out on a high note - ranks second only to "Alaska: The Good Shit" from back in 2019.
Another hat-tip (aside from the palette) to 2022's "High Bush - the best of 'em all, was the editorial decision to rotate the couple so as to view them from the head, which was made in order to better illustrate the citiscape.
Here's both the original doodle snapped right from the pages of the sketchbook, and then below, the pencil version of the last xmas holiday panel, celebrating the re-legalization in Alaska.
This is an excerpt of a small section that shows the process of penciling in successive layers, drawing right through/on top of things - literally setting the stage before putting on the props and the people. Or in this case, elves.
As mentioned in an earlier post, this was what turned out to be the last Baked Alaska in print. It's also an excellent opportunity that I definitely want to take a minute and thank the outstanding team behind every issue, from proofreading to editing to printing to advertising - what an awesome team to work with for all these years.
So these next two particular panels are exclusive bonus material just for readers of Ink & Snow. The first here, was a learning experience to research and relearn the distinction between different types of service dogs.
Oh, and take a good luck at those hands. Well, in this instance, paws. We'll be seeing them sooner than later adapted to an upcoming design that'll hopefully be released for 4/20.
And lastly - for this post, as there was still a couple more left over in the production pipeline that'll be uploaded next week at high moon - here's one for my favorite baker.
