Another way to describe them are "cellphone zombies." I mean, texting while driving is a thing, and the internet abounds with hapless incidents of walking while engrossed with their smartphones, so why not while in flight?
As you can see from a snapshot of the process in the sketchbook it took a couple different perspectives to winnow the final version down to a one-panel.
And this only happens a couple times a year but still whenever it does I'm traumatized over the sudden heart-stopping noise. Haven't ever found one dead, so they all recover and fly away on their own. But I remember the last place I worked had enormous windows that routinely took the life of handfuls of different species each season. So sad - there are methods out there to mitigate this.
