"Phishing"

Part of the inspiration behind this particular panel was the revelation that all of my information and data had been stolen from a local health care facility. Long before the organization confessed and contacted me offering recovery services,  I had begun to receive suspicious demands for payment on bills from companies I had no idea about. In short, I was the victim of an attempted phishing attack. Of course, with a name like James Smith, I always felt protected by the fact my sorry ass is always broke, and so stealing anything from my car to my identity might get you as far as halfway across town, and good luck trying to buy anything.

But seriously, the thing is, this is an escalating situation which is of great concern for vulnerable demographics that are targeted most: folks who are not computer literate and/or susceptible due from age or illness to falling for such scams. AI is starting to make this exponentially worse with deepfake technology.
