Actually I have no idea if there really are or aren't any up in this neck of the woods. And though it is a historically habitual part of getting cred as a spiritual leader or deep thinker to retreat into the wilderness, I seriously doubt any of their abilities to maintain a veneer of civilized behavior and not lose their shit amidst the pressures and stress of contemporary society. Think Buddha or Jesus of Mohammad stuck in a traffic jam. Or recall the venerable joke posted in many an outhouse about losing nonviolent, pacifist beliefs the second a mosquito lands on a testicle.
I've posted about the technical term a few times before (here, here, and here): “Grawlix (/ˈɡrɔːlɪks/) or obscenicon is the use of typographical symbols to replace profanity. Mainly used in cartoons and comics.” One theory is that bad language is an indication of low class and education, of which I'm certainly guilty of, but there are conflicting studies that claim otherwise. So to hell with ya. But seriously, the vulgarity of current politics, inspired by the obscenity in chief, has certainly ushered in a new era in lowering standards of basic decency. Asshole. So a win for comedians and cartoonists, at the expense of civility and common discourse.
