"Subsistence Sammich"

A peek behind the curtain at the editorial process: I thought the initial caption came across as somewhat disrespectful (wait, what? In a cartoon?), as in crossing the line from droll commentary on a re-contextualized regional event, to making fun of a speech pattern that is culturally stereotypical in the same tiresome way for example Tonto's inflection was so disparaging if not tacitly insulting. Shifting the intent towards a focus on the magnitude of the sandwich is more in line with where the inspiration originally came from: my own culinary foraging habits. I love sammiches. Big ones - Dagwood caliber - that I bring bring home and finish off later and even share with other denizens of the cabin.
