Based on the premise (which still holds true today) that most folks will glaze over the usual stock of clip-art in newspaper ads but an original cartoon will hopefully draw more eyeballs. One of the managers for what at the time was the source for music (albums!) in Fairbanks, Hoitt's Music & Stereo, commissioned me to do some art for them. Eventually he wound up breaking off on his own and started his own business for installing high-end car stereos, aptly named "Arctic Car Tunes." He tapped me again for a series of custom illustrations which were all framed up on the wall behind his front counter and running weekly in the newspaper.
It was the perfect marriage between my two greatest passions: music and drawing, and set the stage for many future endeavors and collaborations between the two.
