A strip appearing in 1985 for the “The Knothole,” SUNY School Environmental Forestry. My father was quite the mycologist, and we used to forage about the woods with field-guides, sometimes harvesting them for a meal, or getting spore-prints from the caps and using a microscope for identifying different species. Needless to say, it was quite the challenge to somehow invest a mushroom with enough charisma to carry a feature.
