"Deformed Mascott"
Another entry in the American Exceptionalism series: Bald eagles are one of the many species that are on the list... just one of the canaries in the proverbial coal-mine. They weren't emphasized in this particular study, but chickadees and ravens just aren't anywhere near as charismatic, or for that matter, metaphoric. Even in a state that at best is jaded about the eagle's magnificence (and at worse regarding the symbol of national pride as little more than a nuisance trash-bird), one could still hope folks might pay a little more attention.
That is, maybe after the BBQ, beer, and blowing shit up, the last of which seems unfortunately to be our biggest export.
