There is always a backing sheet of white cardstock that I always slip behind whatever page I'm working on in the sketchbook. This is so that if there happens to be a penciled page or two or three laying under whatever page I'm inking up with a ballpoint, it'll mimeograph the graphite onto the back of the page. So this is just a buffer between that. After many, many doodles later the hieroglyphic quality can be see watermarked like a tombstone rubbing in chalk.
