We've had millions of acres burned again so far for the season - and right when it should be winding down it's instead picking back up. At least the Interior has been now tamped down enough to allow for a few weeks of actual summer. Too bad about the rest of the goddamned planet though.

But for a while there we were ringed with wildfires that would blanket us with any slight shift in wind, cutting visibility down to half a mile in my immediate neck of the woods, with some outlying areas even evacuated. I had in class a couple firefighter folks who had been advised during training that the blazes were so big, bad and pervasive that it'll take a good blanket to snow to finally shut it all down for good. And those firefighters are the heroes of the year. Again. Bet every idiot bemoaning the evil socialists maybe (maybe) has a real change of heart after literally feeling the heat.
They never make the connection between social resources like firefighting and the social programs they have been conditioned to abhor, like real universal health care, and regulation of obscene wealth and corporations. Freedom means that they each get to fight Goliath alone, and lose and lose and lose.
