Held Over: 2025 UAF Art Department Faculty Show

The annual UAF Art Department faculty exhibition got extended by at least another week, probably two through September 26th. So if by chance you are out and about stop by campus and take a look, as there is an eclectic assortment of works on display, created by an equally diverse department. It's been a while since I sampled some random textures from macro shots and made a poster for the event, and it's always an up-close, intimate perspective.

Yesterday's post alluded to a particular piece, a point of personal pride with a printed canvas - after a month-long series of delays with Blick, the spiffy floating canvases finally arrived - unfortunately a week after the show opened, but I've looked like white trash before. But seriously, I'm hooked now, and will in all likelihood never return to the old way of displaying these panels for any future shows, these are pretty slick.

It bears mention one piece in the literal spotlight is by Professor of Native Art Da-ka-xeen Mehner, who’s also director of the UAF Native Arts Center. Free "I am diverse, I am equitable, and I am inclusive" posters of the installation are available while supplies last.

Also another quartet of new Nuggets panels were printed up and dropped into frames: a couple, "Never Mind," and "Old Timer," have been posted recently, and the other two, "The Broken Seal," and "The Otter Family," will appear here sooner than later. But the chef's kiss for me was seeing this little area in the context of the recent dose of nostalgia with that article about the start of the Cartoon & Comic Arts course twenty-five freakin' years ago, and the coming full-circle with 1998's show in the very same gallery. Comics on the walls... and in the curriculum... and classroom!
