"Loose Dogs"

I got the idea for this particular panel whilst out strolling with mine own Significant Otter. It was a literal laugh-out-loud moment, well, at first maybe more of a snort. Enough of a noise to make my partner ask about what just went through my head. At least straight outta left field is an improvement on an otherwise inappropriate moment (occupational hazard when with a cartoonist).

I can even claim something somewhat sorta tangential connection with the colonizing history of gold-rush women, especially within recent memory right here in the golden heart city. And trail etiquette is absolutely crucial.

It's an example of the hand-in-glove potential with taking a reference photograph to supplement the original concept. And many would admit the spiked collar to be a somewhat exciting element to the scenario.

The panel has now been indelibly etched upon my mind, as the signage around one of our favorite trails right here in the Interior now frequently elicits at least a side-eye.

  1. Inappropriate comments reminds me of a thing that happened way back in about 1990, when our shop was outfitting a lot of local kids for the huge surge in youth hockey, including girls' teams. Parents had brought in a young woman about maybe 13. As they were fitting her to full body armor, heavy gloves, and a helmet, I said, "getting ready to start dating, I see." They gave me a very quizzical look. I'm lucky that was all.
