Nothing going on locally this time - though this was a great event a few years ago - that I've been able to find out about, but by way of commemorating Banned Books Week, check out the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. And yes, it's still a constant issue: case in point being another banning of Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man" this week by a school board in North Carolina.
“It was a hard read,” said board chair Tommy McDonald, who voted in favor of the ban. Another board member said, “I didn’t find any literary value.”Here's an interesting roster of artists and their take on censorship, and a sample list of comic titles that routinely get into trouble here.
