"Dune, Alaska"

One of the handful of series I routinely re-read every few years or so, Frank Herbert's epic Dune books rank pretty high in the personal pantheon of favorite fiction. Others saga standbys include the Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula LeGuin, Tolkien's works (especially The Silmarillion, which I fervently hope Peter Jackson never, ever gets his greedy hands upon), The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephan R. Donaldson, The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander, The Eternal Champion Cycle from Michael Moorcock, Philip José Farmer's Riverworld, Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar Saga, and others.

This utterly ridiculous homage went through a couple revisions, as the inclusion of the iconic Fremen sandriders is a crucial component. When one is dealing with nerdy subject matter, these trivial details assume disproportionate significance. Damn it, it's important.
