"The Feast"

Excerpt from "The Feast" - story by Anna Bongiovanni/art by Evan Palmer

Fairbanksan comic artist Anna Bongiovanni just got some nice exposure: tapped on The Comics Reporter for her recent collaborative effort (with Evan Palmer) "The Feast" that's featured over at Top Shelf

I love the story and it is complimented by some well-done, graphic art paced out with some creative panel arrangements and page designs: particularly dig the forest scenes (esp. the page nine bait scene) and bold use of spot blacks, along with nice crisp linework and some hilarious character expressions. The band of kids are reminiscent of a Lord of the Flies setup mashed with a feral version of the Lost Boys Girls, with a Phaƫtonean, bittersweet climax that brings to mind the "Misjudged Effects" alternate ending of "Return of the Jedi" (see clip below).

Anna just finished up attending Minneapolis College of Art and Design in their Comic Art BFA program; one of her fabulous minicomics was prominently displayed in 2007's Cartoon North exhibition and publication; and she even dropped in one of my Cartoon & Comic Art classes for a wonderful "local heroine" show & tell that was really inspiring to the students and myself. Congratulations to Anna and do check out her Soft & Fleshy blog for more of her wonderful works, and order your own copy over on Etsy.
